Paper bag kites

paper bag kite

When we did these in the session some of the parents thought that they were handbags! What ever they are they are not hard to make and the kids love them.

You will need:

  • Brown paper bags
  • Wool
  • Sticky tape
  • A hole punch
  • Long strips of tissue paper
  • Stapler
  • Decorations – flowers, foam shapes, stickers

Method

Stick four pieces of sticky tape over the top of the paper bag, two on each side and opposite to the pieces on the other side. This will reinforce the holes and prevent the wool pulling though the paper. Punch holes through the sticky tape. Thread the wool though one hole and tie off. Thread it through the hole opposite and tie off.

Repeat this for the other holes. The wool needs to be reasonably long but not too long so they get tangled.

Staple the strips of tissue paper to the bottom of the bag and decorate the bag with the stickers, pretend flowers, foam shapes etc…

Let the children run about with them to make them fly, but not in a confined space!
